A dedicated IP address is needed when choosing to process Credit Cards online or needing a SSL connection for your users to safely submit their data online.
 
According to VISA regulations customers should have a SSL with a minimum of 128Bit Encryption. If you choose to do online credit cards, you will need the following (listed below).
 
  1. SSL Certificate (128Bit Encryption)
  2. Dedicated IP Address for SSL connection
 
Other instances that you may need a dedicated IP:
 
  1. Anonymous FTP
  2. Setting up your own DNS (Domain Name Servers.)
