Below is some information to help assist you further in learning how to ping and trace route your site. Pinging your site, (should you need to) is a way in which you can establish if your site is resolving or not.

Traceroutes are very simple to do. However, they are an important tool to better assist you in finding how many routers / switches your computer has to pass through in order to get to the O2Link Servers.

What is Ping?

You can ping any site. For example you can ping a hostname, such as http://www.microsoft.com/, http://www.google.com/, and many others. Alternatively, you can also ping an IP Address. Pinging an IP Address will tell you if the server is online and responding.

  1. You may use the following site to do so: http://www.dnsstuff.com
  2. On the left hand side you will find a field that states “Ping”.
  3. In the field you may enter a hostname (such as http://www.microsoft.com/)
  4. It should provide you with a reply to your request.
What is Trace Route?

Trace Route is a utility that traces a packet from your computer to an Internet host, showing how many hops the packet requires to reach the host and how long each hop takes.

  1. You may use the following site to do so: http://www.dnsstuff.com
  2. On the left hand side you will find a field that states “Traceroute”.
  3. In the field you may enter a hostname (such as http://www.microsoft.com/)
  4. It should provide you with a reply to your request.
